Label TextThe play of light on water and the pull of the tides rivet attention in this scene of the coastline along Gran Manan Island, off the coast of New Brunswick, Canada. The long horizontal format of this painting, twice as wide as it is tall, allows for a sweeping view that provides a sense of the coast’s expanse. Alfred Thompson Bricher was fascinated by marine landscapes and devoted his career to creating memorable paintings such as this up and down the Eastern Seaboard of the United States and Canada, from New Jersey to Nova Scotia.
