These figures are engaged in a traditional Mexican folk dance called a jarabe, which mimics courtship between two lovers. A major Chicano artist, Luis Jiménez’s work continues to influence subsequent generations. He featured imagery associated with the American Southwest, especially Latino culture, that celebrated working-class people through rich cultural symbolism.

Estas figuras participan en una danza folklórica tradicional llamada jarabe, la cual imita el cortejo entre dos amantes. Considerado uno de los artistas chicanos más importantes, las obras de Luis Jiménez continúan influenciando a las nuevas generaciones. Jiménez representaba imágenes asociadas con el suroeste norteamericano, especialmente de la cultura latina, que celebraba a la gente de clase trabajadora por medio de un rico simbolismo cultural.
