Vicente Rojo’s Negaciónes (Negations) series from the 1970s features square canvases with T-shaped forms imposed on a grid through which Rojo sought to depersonalize his work with an automated composition. Rojo emigrated to Mexico in 1949, leaving his native Barcelona to reunite with family who had fled there during the Spanish Civil War. His career began as a graphic designer working for many prominent publishing firms and developed into an artistic practice that embraced geometric abstraction.
