Label TextI am a visual storyteller. Narrative is the moving force of my visual language with the history of my Texas family as the core. —Marilyn Lanfear
Inspired by her grandmothers’ homes, in which console tables were decorated with framed family photographs, Lanfear collected period swing frames from the 1920s–30s over the course of three years. Then, Lanfear mined her own family archive for pictures, recreated them in ink wash, and placed them in the frames atop an antique table. Featured here are remembrances of graduations, the birth of a new baby, weddings, and family portraits. The watery ink obscures detail in the images, emulating the faded properties of old photographs and memories alike.
