The braying, two-humped Bactrian camel carries a groom wearing a tunic and a conical, Central Asian hat. The camel is dressed with a mottled, two-layered saddle cloth with holes to accommodate its floppy humps. Camels were critical to Tang dynasty trade, traveling the Silk Road to connect China with Central Asia and the Near East.
