Label Text"My work has never been about straight forward
representation, but rather about landscape as
metaphor."
Patricia González
Although González prefers to paint traditional subjects such as the human figure or landscape, her approach is very contemporary. In the 1980s, it was common among painters to use familiar images as points of departure for expressing ideas and feelings. In this example, González reveals the sense of hope that she associates with life itself, as she had recently given birth to her first child. With radiant light shining upon the billowing branches and bustling leaves under a luminous red sky, a metaphor is evoked for impending and flourishing strength.
