DescriptionA large painting of a landscape and cloudy sky seen through the bars of a wrought iron gate that is ajar. Boshier produced Politigate while teaching at the University of Houston (1980–93). The artist returned to painting at that time, after thirteen years of working in photography and sculpture. In London in the 1960s, Boshier became associated with the British Pop art movement, embracing the iconography of British and American mass culture. The artist’s graphic work has been featured on albums by the Clash and David Bowie. (Label text, 2017)
