This print employs the language of graphic novels and comics to depict an embattled American space. In San Antonio artist Michael Menchaca’s work, migrant cats cross a river, some sinking, others clutching farm tools. Migrant cats are a feature of Menchaca’s index of animal characters, which they attribute to the neighborhood stray cats they grew up with in San Antonio and to a desire to flip the power dynamics of depictions of migrants.
