Label Text
These blocks were used to hand stamp artificial and loose-weave silk, mainly headscarves for Bedouin, peasant, and provincial women. The material is treated with lime, placed in an aniline solution, and then printed with lime resist which leaves the desired area to be printed undyed. After a series of chemical treatments and rinses, the material is taken to the printer and stamped with color.
