This print, one of the most famous from the series, is overtly erotic. A licensed prostitute lounges during the day. She rests her head on a lacquer and textile pillow, her mouth slightly open revealing her tongue. The startling red used for the woman's robe and mattress is made from synthetic aniline dyes introduced to Japan from Europe in the 1860s.
