This blouse features a variety of intricately beaded designs, such as flowers and foliage, and a row of figures wearing Indigenous regalia. The coat of arms of Mexico appears on the central panel. This piece formed part of a costume representing the China Poblana, a legendary figure in Mexican history. She is thought to be based on Catarina de San Juan, a woman from India who was enslaved and brought to Mexico by Portuguese pirates. The China Poblana costume became the Mexican national dress in the early 1900s.
