Andrew Wyeth was born in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania into an illustrious family of artists. His father, Newell Convers Wyeth, was a much-celebrated illustrator of magazines, children's books, posters and murals. Wyeth was home-schooled and painted mostly in and around Chadds Ford and on the coast of Maine. He works primarily in egg tempera and watercolors and often uses shades of grey and brown, as exemplified in this fine portrait of his sister, Henriette.
