Label Text
As evidenced by a number of the two- and three-dimensional works in this gallery, the Pukumani pole plays a substantial role in honoring the deceased, both during and after the execution of the Pukumani mortuary ceremony. Bede Tungutalum, who is also a printmaker, learned how to carve from his father. Over the course of his career, Tungutalum has made a concerted effort to pass on traditional ceremonial practices and carving methods.
