Rebozos are long shawls worn by women of all backgrounds in Mexico. The rebozo dates to the earliest period of Spanish colonization in Mexico (ca. 1530), and its use was limited to certain social classes until the early nineteenth century. The rebozo featured here come from the community of Santa María del Río, known for its fine silk rebozos dyed using natural colorants. Their rebozos are also known for the long and fine knotting of the borders, which are sometimes pointed.
