This boxer has endured many blows, but still stands resolute. Part of a larger series illustrating boxers of varied ethnicities, Vincent Valdez’s Native American boxer is a martyr. Rendered as Saint Sebastian, his body is punctured with arrows. Valdez addresses racial justice in his artwork, and his boxers embody the socio-economic hardships of young men of color. "For me, they really become icons of those who have stepped up and answered the call, and those who have slaved away and built the nation," Valdez says.
