Label TextI use old, common things to note and to classify everyday experience. I give cultural artifacts a second life in aesthetics. When I pull them into my aesthetic system, I give them more information and, sometimes, they become archetypical symbols. —Marilyn Lanfear
These concentric wood circles are found objects, embroidery hoops that the artist collected over many years. Although Lanfear did not sew in her youth, most of the women in her family were seamstresses, and her daughter both designs and sews children’s clothing. The collection of hoops can perhaps be viewed as a poetic family portrait, evoking the memory of the many women who used these embroidery hoops.
