Description4 lobed bowl
The two bowls, each titled Bijoux, were created as thin white porcelain sheets molded together to form irregular lobes of two or more sections. The fact that they both carry the same title, and they are frequently photographed together, suggests that the two pieces are considered a set. The bowls do not have wood storage boxes common to Japanese works of art. The bowl comes with with two wood placards inscribed with the title of the work and signature and seal of the artist, “Ryota Aoki”. The absence of wood boxes and the use of the signed placards are familiar to collectors today as a practice common to young potters, especially women potters.ProvenanceThe works were originally purchased by Mrs. Hiroshi Yanagi (Harumi) directly from the artist. They were in Mrs. Yanagi’s collection and stored in a New York warehouse for several years before Mrs. Yanagi sent them to Emily Sano in San Antonio. Not on view
