Label Text
Paul Strand photographed in Mexico from 1932 to 1934. He published the portfolio Photographs of Mexico in 1940, roughly seven years after returning to the United States. Strand organized the publication thematically, telling the story of the people through their landscape, architecture, religious sculpture, and portraits. A reissue of Photographs of Mexico, in 1967, titled The Mexican Portfolio, is a testament to the enduring interest in Mexican art and culture in the United States and to Strand’s timeless Modernist aesthetic.
