This staff probably represents either an ancestor or a mythological figure. Impales on a hardwood shaft, the figure is modeled in clay and painted with an overlay decoration of black, yellow and white. A decoration particularly favored in the New Hebrides is the use of real boar tusks. The colors are influenced by the Sepik River region of New Guinea.
