Label Text
Employing a long exposure during evening hours, Christina Fernandez captures storefront windows and illuminated interiors with great detail. The Lavanderia series focuses on laundromat facades in her East Los Angeles neighborhood, exploring issues of labor, visibility, and identity. Here, Fernandez centers on the world of working class Latinx communities by photographing a space of everyday domestic chores. A few anonymous, blurry figures are seen tending to their laundry—their presence mirrored by the ghost-like graffiti on the windows. (Lana Meador, 2021)
