The voice you hear is that of Shea Cobb—a bus driver, coach, singer, songwriter, poet, and resident of Flint, Michigan. LaToya Ruby Frazier immersed herself in the Flint community, spending five months with three generations of women from the Cobb family to create Flint is Family, a photo-essay and video that consider the Flint water crisis and its effects on the community’s residents. Motivated by social justice, Frazier’s practice addresses subjects including the healthcare system, industrial pollution, income inequality, and race. (Lana Meador, 2021)
