Label TextThese painted tablets share the same name as the communally made house beams made in the town of Sarhua, Peru. These three works illustrate scenes of life in Sarhua between the 1980s and the mid-1990s. This period was characterized by an internal armed conflict in Peru between the federal government and insurgent groups. These tablets portray the terrible violence of the insurgent groups and the Sinchis (a counterinsurgency unit of the Peruvian National Police) against the community, the resistance of the inhabitants against these groups, and finally the inhabitants’ exodus to Lima.
Estas tablas pintadas comparten el mismo nombre que las vigas hechas por la comunidad de Sarhua, Perú. Estas tres obras muestran escenas de la vida en Sarhua entre los años ochenta y mediados de los noventa. Este período se caracterizó por el conflicto armado interno en Perú entre las fuerzas militares y grupos insurgentes. Estas tablas retratan la terrible violencia de los grupos insurgentes y los Sinchis (la unidad de contrainsurgencia de la Policía Nacional del Perú) contra la comunidad, la resistencia de los habitantes contra estos grupos, y finalmente el éxodo de los habitantes a Lima.
