Label TextBlurring the boundary between representation and abstraction, Martha Diamond’s fluid brushwork suggests the energy of the city that is her longtime subject. Diamond has lived and worked in Manhattan’s Bowery neighborhood since 1969, and her compositions are drawn from personal experience and memory of the urban architecture, which become internalized and transformed. A combination of loose and schematic gestures evokes reflections off the steel and glass façades of skyscrapers. Here, the soothing palette of cool blues and purples mirrors that of the sky.
