The black paint applied to the cream-slipped background on this vessel creates a pattern that most likely represents a basket weave design. Because the Maya lived in a tropical climate, where organic materials decay quickly, a vessel such as this provides important information about Classic Maya basketry. (Bernadette Cap, 2021)
