A pioneer of the immersive approach to photojournalism and documentary photography, Danny Lyon is known for becoming a participant in the subjects and activities he captures on camera. Often compiled and published in photo books, Lyon’s work examines social and political issues. After participating in the Civil Rights movement as the photographer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Lyon documented the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club, the demolition of Lower Manhattan, and the Texas prison system, among other subjects. Lyon moved from New York City to the small town of Bernalillo, New Mexico, in 1970, where he currently resides. (Group Label, Lana Meador, 2021)
