This pitcher has some of the characteristic decorative features of Tonalá ceramics, such as registers separating geometric and figural designs, illustrations of flora and fauna, and the use of blue and red pigments against a cream-colored slip. It also possesses some unique additional features, such as the use of dabbing to create the texture of the leaves and grass. Despite this classic example of Tonalá pottery, Florentino Jimón Barba is best known for his bandera (flag) style ceramics and has also cited the art of the Huichol Indigenous community as a major influence.
