Label Text
Luis Jiménez conveys movement and sensuality with exuberant linework and vibrant color. He grew up in El Paso, Texas, and conceived of the “fiesta dancers” theme to represent the region’s multiculturalism. The figures are engaged in a traditional Mexican folk dance called a jarabe, which mimics courtship between two lovers. Jiménez returned to the “fiesta dancers” theme many times in various media, including the bronze sculpture on view nearby.
