Label Text"The Mexican Masters’ Suite" consists of eight original lithographs, two each by the Mexican artists: Jose Luis Cuevas, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo and Francisco Zuniga, who also has one limited edition bronze included.
The Mesoamerican tradition of creating works on paper dates to the codices of the Maya, Mixtec, and Aztec civilizations. The first printing press in the Americas was established in Mexico City in 1539. By the late 18th century, printmaking was in the curriculum of Academia de San Carlos de Nueva España, the first major art academy in the Americas. Printmaking has remained a prominent genre in Latin American art history. (Lucía Abramovich Sánchez, 2020)SignedSigned and numbered, lower right: H.C. 16/25Not on view
