La Vernia, Texas native Eliseo Alvarado began sculpting animals out of cement in the 1980s, after he retired as a groundskeeper for the City of San Antonio. His sculptures were on display in front of his home on the West Side of San Antonio. Alvarado and his family donated two of his sculptures to the San Antonio Museum of Art in the late 1980s, after their presentation in the exhibition Art Among Us, co-organized by SAMA and the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.
