Marionettes and puppets were very popular during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and were often used for religious and political instruction, as well as for simple entertainment. These rare heads were made by the late Rosete Aranda, a legendary nineteenth century puppet-maker from Puebla. (Marion Oettinger, 1998)
