These vessels represent distinctive pottery styles from three states around central and western Mexico. The vessel on the far left exemplifies the tradition of Guanajuato majolica, which dates to the 1700s. The use of green, black, orange, ochre, and yellow glaze over a cream-colored background is typical of the regional style. The lidded jar in the middle of the arrangement is a ponchera, or punch bowl, molded in the shape of a blooming barrel cactus with features that also resemble a pineapple. The vibrant green color is achieved using a lead oxide glaze. The pitcher on the right includes the inscription, "1940. Recuerdo De Metepec. [Feliz] Año,” which translates to “1940. Souvenir from Metepec. Happy [New] Year.” This piece shares the style of the Metepec pulque pitcher also featured in this gallery section; both were intended as mementos for special New Year’s celebrations.
