Label Text
This cup is “bilingual,” meaning that it is decorated in the black-figure technique on the interior and in red-figure on the exterior. In the late 6th century B.C., a small number of bilingual vases were made by Athenian vase-painters. A single male figure occupies the interior of this cup. The exterior design originally consisted on each side of a single figure between a pair of palmettes and eyes. (Jessica Powers 2008)
