Label TextThis man’s thick rolled fillet may have been part of a priestly crown. Priests throughout the Roman Empire were selected from each city’s wealthy elite and were expected while in office to finance expensive religious festivals. An honorific portrait depicting its subject in priestly attire commemorated both his status and his generosity toward his city.
