This panel came from the lid of a wooden coffin decorated with images showing the preparation of a mummy for burial. Here, the wrapped mummy lies on a funerary bed that takes the form of a lion. Between the lion’s legs are four canopic jars to hold the mummy’s internal organs. Beneath this scene, parts of two hieroglyphic inscriptions are visible: these texts requested offerings to sustain the deceased in the afterlife.
