GeographyDescriptionSquare-shaped model of offering tray. At the back of the tray is a kneeling man flanked by two ram's heads wearing solar disks. Before him are five loaves of bread in raised relief. Kneeling falcon deities on each side pour holy water from flasks over the offerings. At each front corner are a standing falcon and a pair of Anubis jackals; a frog covers the projecting channel at front. On the bottom in an illegible inscription.Label TextGroup label with 86.138.207: Bronze figures and objects were an integral part of the temple furnishings used in ancient Egyptian religious ceremonies. The miniature offering tray depicts food offerings to the gods. When a libation was poured over such trays, the liquid was believed to absorb the substance of the images and to convey that essence magically to the divine beneficiary. The figure of a priest carries a tray of offerings on his head. (J. Powers, 2013)ProvenanceBy purchase, the Stark family, Orange, Texas, between 1927 and 1929; by bequest, the Nelda C. and H. J.
