Label Text
This processional banner is made from two sheets of hammered silver, gilded in some areas and fastened to a silver stand. The technique used to create the designs on this piece is known as repoussé. One the side visible here, the gilded figure of Saint John the Baptist appears in a cartouche at the center of the banner. On the other side, the symbol for the Holy Eucharist appears in the same place. This banner likely belonged to a confraternity, a Christian fraternal order that would have been responsible for bringing it out during special processions.
