Huipiles are rectangular blouses that are commonly worn by Indigenous women of Mexico and Central America. They predate the Spanish colonization of Mesoamerica, and their design varies widely by region. The huipil seen here represents the embroidery style of the Ixcatec community, based in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Oaxaca has eighteen federally recognized Indigenous groups, each with its own textile traditions.(LA, 2020)
