The original composition of these objects is unknown, but may have been adornments attached to clothing. The Tiarono are well known for their use of Tumbaga - a copper and gold alloy. After the object was made, it would undergo depletion gilding during which copper remaining at the surface would be removed by an acid resulting in a shiny gold finish. Other examples of Tairono gold adornments show wear on them, suggesting that they were well-used during the owner's life. (Bernadette Cap, 2021)
