Label Text
This torso of a woman probably came from a full-length statue of a goddess. She wears a thin chiton under a himation, or mantle, which is draped over her left shoulder and wrapped around her thighs. The chiton is belted under her breasts; the hole in the belt allowed the attachment of a knot or bow in metal or in another piece of marble. (Jessica Powers 2008)
