The use of incised lines to indicate details in the black-figure technique is particularly clear in the feathers of the roosters on this vase. This amphora is one of a group of vases labeled “Chalkidian” because several have inscriptions in the Chalkidian alphabet. Chalkidian vases were made in southern Italy, perhaps in Rhegium, a colony of the city of Chalcis.
