Label TextSide A: Herakles and Amazons
Side B: Two mounted Amazons
One of Herakles’ Labors was to bring Eurystheus the girdle of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, a race of female warriors. This vase shows Hippolyta mortally wounded and falling to her knees as Herakles attacks another Amazon with his sword. The discoloration of this side of the vase is the result of misfiring.
