Label Text
Part of an inscription, including the Greek letters ΛΙΣ, can still be read in the upper right corner of this fragment of a floor mosaic. The use of Greek indicates that this mosaic was made in one of the eastern, Greek-speaking provinces of the Roman Empire. Prior to the museum’s acquisition of the mosaic, the inscription was modified to look like the legs of a second bird. (J. Powers, 2008)
