The Nile, as the major water source for ancient Egypt, was central to daily life and was itself a symbol of life and prosperity. In both the solar concept of the afterlife and the Osirian netherworld, an otherworldly Nile played a central role. This painting, once part of a coffin, shows the deceased boating on the Nile of the otherworld.
