Bolivian headbands are pre-Columbian in origin and are seen in a few parts of highland Bolivia where they are worn only by women. These "winchas" are excellent examples of warp-faced weaving that produces mirror designs when reversed. The glass beads are strung on the weft threads. Headbands are often passed on from mother to daughter, and they frequently have great symbolic value related to lineage and religious belief.
