Boxing has been a popular national sport in Ecuador since the 1920s. Ecuadorian boxing experienced its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, around the time this sculpture was made. Here we see a Black and white boxer mid-fight, with the Black boxer about to throw a right cross at his opponent.
