The game of Lotería came to Mexico from Europe in the late eighteenth century. Lotería is similar to the game of Bingo but is played using boards featuring an assortment of popular images rather than numbers. These images, taken from a deck of fifty-four cards, include figures from the earliest loterías such as celestial and zodiacal images, as well as newer additions like the Mexican flag and the nopal (prickly pear cactus).

El juego de la lotería llegó a México desde Europa a finales del siglo XVIII. La lotería es similar al Bingo, pero se juega usando tablas que incluyen una variedad de imágenes populares en lugar de números. Estas imágenes se toman de un grupo de cincuenta y cuatro cartas e incluyen figuras de las primeras loterías, como imágenes celestiales y zodiacales, y de incorporaciones más recientes como la bandera mexicana y el nopal.
