The animals that decorate this jar include a stag, a hippocamp (half horse and half sea monster), a winged cat, a deer, and three waterfowl. The Etruscan potter has adopted both the fantastical animals and the black-figure technique—the use of lines incised in the dark background to outline the figures—from contemporary Greek pottery made in Corinth.
