This impressive warrior figure is remarkable for its size, good condition, and excellent sculptural quality. Bitumen (tar) was used extensively on the ceramics from this region of Mesoamerica to represent body decoration and to define a class of individuals set apart from others. (Marion Oettinger, 1998)
