Label Text
In this sketch, Daura depicts the refugee camp at Argeles-sur-Mer in France. The local population was largely indifferent to the plight of the people, crowded together on the beaches in appalling conditions. Here, Daura again revisits the theme of mother and child, in this case using the subject to arouse sympathy, compassion, and conscience in the viewer.
