Employing her own body, Cecilia Paredes’s photo performance implies a continuity between all living things and a shared experience of the life cycle. She is pictured lying face down on a bed of leaves with taxidermic birds on her back, loaned from the Natural History Museum in Costa Rica where the artist lived for twenty-four years. To invoke memory and migration in her work, Paredes transforms her body to blend in with her surroundings. Displayed on a light box, this image suggests the observation of a scientific specimen, but also that of an ethereal vision. The title translates to The Dream.
